The Psychology Research Showcase planning committee welcomes your abstract submissions for the Psychology Research Showcase poster sessions, which will take place on Friday, April 24th from 10:30 am to 1:00 pmPosters will be followed by a Clinical Careers Keynote Speaker (Dr. Patrick Harris) at 2 pm. All events will take place in THH 275. 

MEETING SCHEDULE:

10:30-11:30            Poster Session A

12:00-1:00 pm      Poster Session B

1:00-2:00 pm         Career showcase

2:00-3:00 pm         Clinical Careers Keynote Speaker: Dr. Patrick Harris

Submission guidelines and deadlines:

  • Students must submit an application for poster presentation by 11:59 PM on March 27th  via our application portal.
  • Please list any co-authors on separate lines in the authors area.
  • Include your title and a short abstract of your research. Abstracts are limited to 250 words or fewer.
  • Upon acceptance, abstracts will be posted on the Psychology Research Showcase web page
  • Poster boards and pins will be provided. Due to the size of the boards, we highly recommend that posters be no larger than 36” high x 48” wide (3 x 4 ft). If your poster will be a different size, please provide its dimensions so that we can determine if it can be accommodated.

Poster Awards (awarded to first author of poster)

  • Each poster will be evaluated by a panel of judges, with separate award categories for undergraduate and graduate presenters. 
    • Best poster award (1 graduate, 1 undergraduate): $200
    • Runner-up award (1 graduate, 1 undergraduate): $100

Presentation Title for Pre-Clinical Career Showcase Keynote Speaker:

Laughing Matters: The Science, Skill, and Ethics of Humor in Counseling

Presenter: Patrick Harris, PhD, LPC

Patrick Harris, PhD, LPC is a licensed professional counselor, clinical director, and educator specializing in mind-body medicine, trauma-informed care, and clinician resilience. He is the Clinical Director and Owner of the Texas Institute of Mind-Body Medicine and serves as a Lecturer in Psychology at Texas State University and Adjunct Professor in Counseling at St. Edward’s University. His published work addresses humor as a pedagogical approach in higher education, clinical interventions for aggressive humor styles associated with dangerous prank behaviors, and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. He previously served as Chief Operating Officer of Dr. Patch Adams’ Gesundheit Institute, where he helped advance humane, relationship-centered models of care, and is the President-Elect of the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor (AATH). Dr. Harris regularly presents internationally on stress physiology, burnout, therapeutic humor, and integrative interventions for healthcare professionals and first responders.
